Hey Yelp, there's an extra "n" in "Innlet"! Locals brought us to this spot. We were lucky enough to score a parking space in the tiny lot as well as a prime picnic table with a stellar view of Matanzas Inlet. Even though it's AC-ed inside, diners are all about the view, and despite the sun ray's and heat, the patio was well-populated. After much deliberation over the menu options (andouille gator sausage!), eventually I opted for the Caesar wrap with one of the fishes of the day, tuna. The wrap was generously-sized, and I also found it cute that there were croutons inside of it. Everyone else in my party seemed pleased with his/her food selections, especially with the peel-n-eat shrimp and tuna sandwiches. Service is ultra-friendly though certainly not on the speedy side. Three of us ordered unsweetened iced teas and were brought sweet teas with lime but we didn't say anything because the sweet teas were right delish: not too sugary and freshly-brewed. Delicious seafood and a picturesque setting make Matanzas Innet a winner.

The view was really nice. The bartender made me a mango daiquiri that was perfect!! I want too hungry so I only ordered the conch fritters. They weren't bad, but I've definitely had better. My hubby ordered the shrimp poboy sandwich, which he loved. We stopped here while traveling through, I liked the atmosphere, the drinks, and the friendly staff! I'd definitely recommend trying it it! Even though I didn't care for their fritters doesn't mean you won't love them :-)

We also stopped to grab an early dinner at Matanzas Inlet. It was okay, maybe 3 star at best. The view and location was great but the food was just meh. I had the blackened mahi sandwich and it was good, but a little plain. The rest of our party's food was just okay. The hamburgers, the fries, the coconut shrimp, the fried shrimp, the cole slaw... all just meh...

I do not get all these 4 star reviews. My parents and I came here for a late lunch on a weekday. The place was maybe 1/2 full. No one greeted us, so we asked someone sitting at the bar whether we were supposed to seat ourselves. Then, someone grabbed us menus. The table we sat at was dirty, as was my menu. The bottles of sauces at the table were also dirty. I had to grab silverware and "napkins" (washcloths) from another table. There only seemed to be one waitress attending to everyone, so she was slow to take our orders and bring our food. My mother is gluten intolerant, which is the main reason we came here - they have a gluten-free menu. The waitress had a hard time answering my mom's questions, which were pretty basic. She also had the personality of a wet blanket. We ordered iced teas and they were lukewarm and bland due to the melted ice. No one offered to refill. My dad and I ordered the shrimp po' boy. I had sweet potato fries and my dad had the rice and beans. The sandwich was generously sized with about 6 large fried oysters. Unfortunately, they were bland as hell. No amount of salt and cocktail or tartar sauce could save them. The sweet potato fries were also bland and very limp. Definitely not worth the $2 upcharge. The coleslaw was also limp and overly sweet. My dad didn't comment on his lunch, which means he was not impressed, but didn't want to admit it because he was the one who picked the place, lol. (I wanted to go back to South Beach Grill.) After hearing the man at the next table complain loudly and lengthily about how bad the Matanzas conch chowder was (he sent it back), my mother went with the New England clam chowder. She also ended up sending it back, which is a big deal because she is one of those super-nice people who will tell the server everything is great when it's really just okay. She said it tasted off, like it wasn't made fresh. I added a star only because my mom was thrilled to find gluten-free crab cakes. She thought they were very good, but the bite I tried didn't impress me. (I'm from Seattle, so I know crab cakes.) The way I see it, the only reason to come here is for the location. Have drinks (but not the iced tea!), enjoy the view, then go somewhere else to eat.

Quite the noisy, funky, friendly place, if you like that sort of thing. Seemed like a locals favorite. The service was fast and super friendly. Food was decently priced for the quality and quantity. The tilapia fish sandwich had a huge piece of fish, and the roll was very fresh. The tacos with shrimp were a little skimpy on thrip, but they were warm and cooked just right. We'd go back again for a quick meal.

Great food, great view and dog friendly too! The seafood is always fresh, and the menu offers a great selection.

Food was ok, service HORRIBLE and servers not friendly. Look like they hate their job. I'm a manager at a restaurant myself and I would be embarrassed with that kind of service. I will never be back.

Called in a "takeout" based on the Yelp reviews about the wait. The reviews were correct and even after adding a few minutes to our arrival we were still 20+ minutes past their stated target. To be fair the bar was packed with NCAA basketball fans but the wait was still more than a little noticeable. My issue was not with the wait, since I was aware it might happen, but with the shrimp preparation. I ordered a fried Shrimp PoBoy and was disappointed to find the "mud vein" still very much intact. If you wonder why your shrimp may have a little a little additional grit then you should Google Shrimp "Mud Vein" and make an informed dining decision. Beachside spot that will never know or care if I return but I still thought the experience was worth telling. The two stars are based on the friendliness of the servers and that other orders, not involving Shrimp, were deemed ok. Enjoy your visit and please pass me the napkins. My "mud vein" is starting to drip.

Grows on you. Liked seafood and atmosphere. Parking a problem but look across A1A for space. Good fun

We took my mother here for her 85th birthday. The staff could not have made her feel more special. They made her a beautiful Margarita with a cherry, fruit slice and umbrella. Outside dining was crowded so we all had drinks and sat by the inlet watching the sun go down for only a few minutes until our table was ready. We shared several appetizers and one entrée among all of us. Everything tasted great, especially the oysters, both fried and raw. The real thing that put this restaurant over the top was our outstanding waitress. I don't know her name but she was listed as Server #1 on our receipt. Her personality was great. You could tell she really enjoyed serving people. One of our appetizers was the artichoke hearts scampi. She waited until we were almost done with the meal and then brought out warm garlic bread for us to dip in the delicious sauce from the artichoke hearts scampi. She made sure we were never thirsty the entire meal and to top it off she brought out a piece of Key Lime Pie with a sparkler in it and helped us sing 'Happy Birthday to my Mom. It was a perfect birthday evening thanks to Matanzas Innlet Restaurant and our wonderful server. Outstanding service and excellent food.

Fantastic mussels in garlic butter sauce. Be sure to get bread to soak up the sauce. Natasha was our awesome server. Outside seating on the water with sunsets included.

I acknowledge it was a busy place, but when it takes more than a hour to get served there is no excuse for a piece of fish that is suppose to be grilled and it comes out in chunks, cold, and tasting of grease. Fries on other dishes were cold as well. If they are so busy, hire some additional staff so you can serve customers properly.

Food was hot and tasty, nothing fancy but the beer is cold and the view is spectacular! Fun to watch people fish and the tide whoosh under the bridge.

Honestly don't stop! There are plenty of other places on the ocean or inlet with way better food and just as good of a view. The inside of the place is a straight up bar,I definately would never bring a family to eat in thereThe food was horrible and there was a smell from the deck that was less than appealing to say the least. The menu is also way over priced. We both had the "fresh catch" sandwhich which was extremely fishy and was mahi one of the more mild steakier fish you can order and 12.95 a plate, FOR A LOUSY FISH SANDWICH. I will say on the other hand that our second waitress was very good, attentive and sweet. The first, very all over you and then never to be seen again,I guess bottom line....DRINKS ONLY AND LOTS OF THEM!!

Great local seafood place. One of the best waterfront decks in Florida. Specialize in Italian Seafood and local dishes. Don't miss the sunsets from the deck. Local music nightly. Great service and a fun crowd.

Not worth a return trip but not bad either. Had special and was ok, my partner had fish and chips and it was greasy. Coconut shrimp was way over cooked. Service was friendly and a little slow. But there must be better places worthy of coming back

Enjoyed a walk on the inlet side of the Mantanzas Inlet, then drove over to the Restaurant. Get seated outside for a great view of the Inlet. You can also see Ft Mantanzas. Fantastic & Friendly staff. Fresh fish for lunch - what could be better.

One of the best fried clam po'boy's I've ever had --- and entertaining conch fritters to boot. The clams were buttery and rich, but not oily; well done. The conch fritters had more breading and less conch than I'd hoped, but were still a nice novelty. Service is leisurely and occasionally snarky (especially when kids are throwing french fries to the seagulls, causing a feeding frenzy). The view's quite nice. There's some parking right next to the restaurant, and more across A1A. Much of the crowd when we visited was mellow bikers --- Beamers and Goldwings, not Harleys and customs. Lots of Aerostich suits and "proper riding protection attire," no raised voices.

Seated quickly. Staff friendly. GREAT VIEW FROM OUTSIDE DECK. Must agree with other reviewers, service is slow, slow, slow :-( Sad because the food is good. Didn't get all the food we ordered, had to go get the waitress to find out why. Oysters were very, very small so not really worth the price. The steamed shrimp were perfectly cooked, medium sizes but under seasoned for my taste. Fried cod basket was good as well as the fried tilapia sandwich. Coconut shrimp were just so-so. Never got a couple of drink refills or beer we ordered. Would like to blame it on being busy but it just wasn't the case. Love, love, love the view and atmosphere so may give it another go but can't give it more than 2 stars based on the poor service and some of the food being just ok.

Had the clam linguini and it was really good! They have an awesome gluten free menu with an extra large pizza that's better than regular gluten free crust. Like a multigrain crust. Bahama Mamas were strong but the best I've ever had. Service was great! My only gripe was that it took forever (longer than usual) for the food to come out. Other than that we had a great time.

I have been here at least 6 times. And the last 3 were a real let down.Last week when the weather was beautiful some friends came from out of town. I live like 5 minutes from the restaurant. We spent a nice time at the beach then thought we would cap off a nice day with a relaxing late lunch. WOW! was I wrong. The waitress was doing her best but the kitchen was way off the mark. It would be one thing if the place were crowded. But they were not. My frien ordered the special, a corned beef sandwich. "WHERES THE BEEF" is an understatement. There was barely any beef. It took close to an hour for the 3 of us to get our very simple meals. What a dissappointment. It will be a while before I go back. 5 minutes north near 206 you will have much better luck.

This is a beautiful place to go after a long day at the beach. The view is spectacular, the drinks are cold, and the oysters are MASSIVE! This place has some of the largest shuck your own (bucket of oysters) I've ever experienced and they taste so good. I haven't experienced the slow service many reviewers mention but have had my order messed up when asking for anything not straight off the menu. Definitely a good place to stop, don't forget your sunscreen!

Great location and good food but slow service, which gives you time to hangout if you're in the mood. Tucked behind the bridge, we sat ourselves outside. Decor and furnishings are a little rough (e.g. plastic benches, pinup girls, etc). Porch overlooks the Matanzas (sp?) River with great views of wildlife including dolphins and birds. Went on a Wednesday night and they had live music, very pleasant -- sun, beer, and favorite songs. I had the oyster poboy, probably one of the better ones I've had. The rest of my party had salads so the menu is hard to judge from my perspective. In sum, it's a great spot if you just want to hang out with some beers in the sun, they won't push you out the door. But if you're in a hurry, this probably isn't the place for you (though maybe that means this is exactly the place you need).

Fun atmosphere outside but not so clean inside. Plus the older woman who appears to run the place is quite snippy. She has no patience or bedside manor. Food is average but takes forever to eat here & get out. (Both times ive been here) Live music weekdays after 6pm.

  • Marty M.

Not great. I was disappointed. Atmosphere is superb but the food wasn't. I had a shrimp po boy and it was okay. My brother had Mahi Mahi and it was overcooked. My wife had had fried shrimp and it must have been bought from a super market. We had crab cakes for an appetizer and they were not that great. The guy singing couldn't sing

Service really sucks! But the food is really good. So if you dont mind good food with sucky service I would recommend this place. Inside restaurant is just average outside is awesome. Right on the water just bring bug spray. The bugs bite.

This place is a hidden treasure. The staff was so friendly, they made you feel like you have been going there for years. Beautiful view on the Inlet. Not a fancy place but they make up for that with atmosphere and charm. The conch fritters were amazing as was their homemade hot sauce. If you are looking for a nice place on A1A to stop on your way between St. Augustine and Daytona, make your way here.

This is a great picturesque stop. We sat outside with a view of the inlet (just 20 feet away) and enjoyed lunch. The fish wrap was okay. The fish and chips though, rocked. Completely unhealthy but worth every bite. The staff was friendly and the prices were reasonable, the view though is just so nice! This place is definitely worthy of a stop.

went for lunch. Cute restaurant on water. Would be a great date night spot. Both tea and coffee were somewhat very strong. Hamburger was good. liked the atmosphere more than the food. Would go again. Next time I'll try the seafood. Service was great.

First time visit. Late night meal. Four in our party. And all agreed to give Matanzas a 4 star review. Soups were excellent, homemade and fresh even at the late hour. New England Chowder was very tasty and a good ratio of clam and potato, celery and herbs. Cream of mushroom soup was delicious as per it's eater. Oysters were large and fresh tasting of the sea. Steamed clams were sweet and properly cooked, clean and tasty. My husband said his Mahi was a tad dry. French fries wee fresh. Beans and rice were hot and not remarkable... Fried Oyster's were crisp, on the outside and juicy in. We likely will go back soon a little earlier as the. View looks amazing.

Spur of the moment stop for lunch with a friend. A first time visit and we are area locals. Our server, Courtney, was very friendly and outgoing. Our service was prompt and courteous. Asked about the raw oysters and was offered a free sample. Delish...ordered a dozen. Our entrees were the Bad-ass Shrimp basket and the Mojo burger, with sweet potato fries and coleslaw. Shrimp very fresh and tasty, burger very good and not frozen, hand packed/shaped. Enjoyed the meal, the server, and the casual beach atmosphere as it was beautiful, pleasant Florida day at the inlet. Highly recommend, we will definitely return.

Great place with a good view of the innlet just south of Crescent beach. You must head down there if you are staying in Crescent. They have live bands on Wed, Fri, and Sat. Food was great. Loved the Tilapia sandwich as well as the coleslaw and sweet potato fries. The staff was VERY friendly. If you want a laid back place to get some food and a drink give th Matanzas Innlet a shot.

Love, Love and did I say LOVE this place?awesome friendly service and made our family feel at home whenever we came during our week vacation at a rental home just down the road. New had gator tail, fried oysters, the fresh fish of the day, fish n chips. Kids had fries and steamed veggies and nuggets and my favorite was the steamed bag of yummy shrimp that was AWESOME!! Can't wait to come back for another vacay and visit the awesome staff!

This is about as casual as it gets at sunset. They don't have Wifi. Only beachfront. They don't have fancy. Only fried, grilled, steamed or blackened. Kids enjoy the outside. Adults enjoy the bar and live music some days. Good ole friendly southern staff. They may call you "sugar" or "Hun" y'all but that is just southern for "friend." Food is yummy. Key Lime pie is awesome. Enjoy!

Best oyster basket we've had in a long time, and the homemade datil pepper sauce was excellent. We were the only non-regulars at the bar, but you'd never know it. Great service and friendly folks. Will definitely come back when in the area.

OK food, friendly staff. Went here with a group because of the plentiful gluten-free options for our gluten-intolerant member. The waitress was helpful and friendly, but the food was just ok. Nice location overlooking the water.

Love the view at sunset. Come for that and the cold drinks but not for the food. Service is spotty. They get very busy in season. Saw a Facebook post that they've changed their menu a bit. Will give them another try to see if the flavor has gotten better. I normally get the chicken tacos and that's about the best I've found on their menu.

  • M S.

Great little place right on the river. Seemed like a local hang out, but everyone was really friendly. Service wasn't super fast so don't stop if your in a hurry, but the waitress was attentive, and it's not a place you'd want to eat and run anyway. Our entire party had something a little different but it was all good. If you get fish, I suggest getting it blackened. Great flavoring and just the right amount of spice. If you do sit out on the deck don't sit by the door as that is where the bar flies all like to take their smoke breaks.

Food was ok, but interior was worn. Service was fair. Was expecting more from the location and the reviews. Probably better as a nighttime dinner and drinks after the beach place.

First time visiting while on vacation and this restaurant was across the street. Locals come here. The location and atmosphere was amazing. We say out back on the water. Live music. Friendly guy. The appetizers were the best part for me. Crab cakes and conch fritters. Both really good. The roasted pepper sauce was awesome. For dinner I had the fresh fish on the menu. I chose the Mahi Mahi blackened. Unfortunately it was way over cooked. My brother had the shrimp po boy he said it was good. My sis in law had fried shrimp basket. Not bad. The service, however, was excellent.

Very good conch fritters! Beer was great, but how could beer not be great? Plan to try their burger (how I normally judge a restaurant) and will be back on that. My expectations are high after the conch fritters. Good, friendly servide at the bar.

Great food! We had gator tail, steamed oyster and crab legs. Everything was perfect! View was beautiful. Highly recommended.

We were driving down the coast and loved the view so decided to stop in spite of the mixed reviews. It was 2:00 pm on a Wednesday in mid April and the outside seating was full, but inside was mostly empty. Our service was very good and the draft beer was very cold. We ordered the shrimp basket and found them very good. They had a light and very tasty coating and were not over cooked. I can't speak to others experience because maybe crowded nights are different, but we look forward to coming back on our next trip to Florida.

Oh my jebus! Conch fritters, blackened tilapia, Apalachicola oysters, Stella on tap. Bodyboarding off the inlet. Heaven

. . . visiting St. Augustine and heard that Matanzas Inlet Restaurant is known for great 'oysters' and a view of the sunset; but, too bad as the place is closed for renovations until December 26, 2013; we'll be back!

    (1)
  • Peter M.

While I did not find the food here to be anything great, they do have a great outdoor deck right on the water so you can enjoy a nice cold drink and watch the world and the boats go by. The inside bar is usually full of friendly locals and the staff is nice also. Steve Spurrier must frequent this place as there are many photos of him from his days at Florida and South Carolina on the walls.

We spend the month of May at Summerhouse Condos in Crescent Beach, near St. Augustine. We're always looking for great restaurants that allow you to enjoy the casual beach atmosphere - this place hit the target! Jasmine was our waitress and she was very friendly and informed us about other area attractions as well. The food was simple, but very good. Fish tacos were the best we've had all month and the blackened tuna on the specials menu was excellent. Add to that an entire menu of gluten free options and you've got a winner! Oh, and don't miss out on their homemade hot sauce!
